This September we added an intermediate, CEFR B1 level to our English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. Students wishing to study EAP but who place at a lower level than B1 will be automatically transferred to the UBC-Vancouver English Experience Program which runs at exactly the same time and at exactly the same fees. From 2019 onwards, From January of 2019, EAP will only run in 16 week increments.
In January 2018, we began the transition of our Intensive English Program to the cutting-edge, experiential learning based UBC-Vancouver English Experience program (VEEP) with our higher levels (CEFR B2 and above). Students’ success and appreciation of this approach encouraged us to complete the transition to our lower levels this September, and in consequence to discontinue the English Fundamentals Program. VEEP runs in 8 week increments.
VEEP is less focused on the rigorous measurement of students’ progress and employs a more generic, non-percentage based assessment similar to our English for the Global Citizen (EGC) program. Student achievement of course learning outcomes is measured using a five point scale (excellent, very good, good, satisfactory and unsatisfactory).
